Super eagles vs Uganda

Nigeria’s Super Eagles confirmed their status as one of the teams to watch at AFCON 2025, cruising to a 3–1 victory over Uganda in their final Group C match in Fez, Morocco. With that result, Nigeria finished the group stage unbeaten with three wins out of three and topped the group with a perfect nine points.

It wasn’t just a win, it was a statement. The Eagles started strong and took the lead in the 28th minute when Paul Onuachu latched onto a low cross from Fisayo Dele-Bashiru to poke home the opener, giving Nigeria the edge before half-time. The momentum continued in the second half. With Uganda reduced to ten men after a red card, Raphael Onyedika took centre stage, scoring twice in quick succession to make it 3–0 and effectively seal the win for the three-time African champions.

Despite the commanding lead, Uganda managed a late consolation goal, but it was too little, too late. The Cranes were unable to stage a comeback, and the match ended 3–1 as Uganda’s AFCON journey came to an end. Topping Group C unbeaten is a confidence booster for Nigeria as they head into the Round of 16 with full points and strong form. Their next opponents will be one of the best third-placed teams from another group, a matchup that promises to be intriguing as the knockout stages kick off.

Tanzania also made headlines in Group C by reaching the knockout stages for the first time in their history after a 1–1 draw with Tunisia, while Tunisia secured second place behind the Super Eagles. With the group phase wrapped up, all eyes now turn to the knockouts and Nigeria’s flawless run has definitely marked them as contenders.
