Avoid Indomie vegetable flavour, NAFDAC tells Nigerians

Date:

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has issued a public alert following the recall of Indomie brand noodles Vegetable Flavour product by French authorities due to the presence of undeclared allergens.

The agency recently disclosed that the French Authority, Rappel Conso of France, issued a notice regarding the recall because the product contains milk and eggs that were not declared on the label, posing significant health risks to consumers with allergies or intolerances.

PUNCH Healthwise reports that the presence of undeclared allergens in food products poses serious health risks to individuals with specific food allergies or intolerances, potentially triggering severe allergic reactions ranging from skin rashes and breathing difficulties to life-threatening anaphylaxis.

In Public Alert No. 041/2025 released on December 18, 2025, NAFDAC stated that while the official risk of the products entering Nigeria was low due to the Federal Government’s ban on noodle importation, heightened vigilance was necessary to prevent possible illicit entry or circulation of the implicated brand.

The recalled product is Indomie brand noodles, Vegetable flavour, with all lots bearing a best before date of February 6, 2026. The origin country of the affected batch was not stated in the alert.

“NAFDAC has commenced vigilance actions to guard against possible entry of the brand into the country, as acquisition of the product through online purchase or international travel cannot be excluded,” the agency stated.

The drug regulatory body directed all zonal directors and state coordinators to carry out surveillance and mop up the product if found within their jurisdictions.

NAFDAC advised distributors, retailers and consumers to exercise caution and vigilance within the supply chain to avoid the distribution, sale and consumption of the recalled foreign brand of Indomie noodles.

“Consumers should discard the product and not consume it,” the alert read.

The agency urged Nigerians to report any suspicion of the sale of the implicated brand of Indomie noodles to the nearest NAFDAC office or call the toll-free number 0800-162-3322.

It also called on consumers to report adverse events or side effects related to the consumption of the products through the e-reporting platforms available on the NAFDAC website, www.nafdac.gov.ng.
